In the 90’s, I taught English as a Second Language to public high school students. My favorite gifts from these students were bags of churritos with hot sauce. The kids would light up when I actually ate from the bag they offered me; their maestra wasn’t used to foods quite that spicy. But… I kept up.
A few years later, I taught ESL to adult refugee students. They gifted me with Musaka from Bosnia, and Russian dumplings. The end-of-year school parties were planned around my students’ homemade cuisine, a gift I would welcome over a Starbucks gift card any day.
That’s what the teacher really wants. She wants something personal, or useful. It could be unique… or even handmade.
Of course, if time is limited and you’d rather use your free time to make sure your child ends his year with a strong finish, leave it to MadeOn to supply a pack of 5 Beesilk or Au Chocolat lotion bars for your children’s teachers.
After that, she’ll get what she really, really wants… the summer off.
