Put a large, glass Pyrex with pre-measured ingredients in a pot of boiling water. The ingredients gently melt within the Pyrex, hopefully without coming in contact with any boiling water from the pot. Pros: you probably have everything you need. Cons: You have to be there to monitor the process.
Once I turned lotion-making into a business, I invested in some dedicated crock pots that I used only for lotion. Pros: you can set it and forget it until there’s a need to stir and pour. Con: it can take hours to completely melt.
If you haven’t seen one of these before, it’s a pot used for steaming or frying. It combines the Set and Forget ease with the Fast Melt convenience. Pros: there’s a temperature control unit so you can melt quickly and yet hold it at a particular temperature. Con: I can’t think of one.
I just got my Instant Pot and I’m pretty excited about using it for food, not skin care. But Lindsey Dietz from Wardee’s Traditional Cooking School used hers and it worked well. Click here to read. Make sure to scroll through the comments. Pro: you can do a controlled melt without burning the ingredients. Con: there’s still the slow melt factor (Lindsey states it’s faster if you grate the hard ingredients first)
