How to Make Sunscreen Sunsticks

The “pro” about applying sunscreen, even homemade sunscreen, is that you can quickly apply the lotion wherever needed. The downside is that you can’t help but get your hands greasy from the sunscreen as you apply it.

Enter: sunscreen in a stick: or, SUNSTICK

Ingredients:

3.5 oz 76 degree coconut oil

3.5 oz shea butter

3.5 oz beeswax

1 TBS zinc oxide

Using the double boiler method**, completely melt the first three ingredients. Add the zinc oxide and using a stick blender, blend the ingredients well. Pour into a recycled deodorant tube or large glue stick-type container. You can also treat these as hard lotion bars and use cupcake or ice cube trays as molds.

Don’t forget to clean up while your equipment is still piping hot!

* This recipe can be made using the ingredients from the DIY Lotion and Lip Balm KIT by also adding a zinc oxide to your order.

**Have a pot of boiling water on a low simmer, place your ingredients in a Pyrex or similar glass container, place the Pyrex with the ingredients in the bowl of hot water and allow to melt. Make sure no water can splash inside your Pyrex of ingredients!
