It’s Best to Leave out the Water in Lotion

While I normally reserve this space to talk about coconut oil, shea butter, beeswax, or cocoa butter, or other ingredients that make up MadeOn, this time I want to talk about water.

Yes, water.

While most skin care products list water as a primary ingredient, here are three reasons why we leave it out:

Products containing water will require that you apply them more often, since they tend to not last as long.
Water lessens the sealing effect. You want the waterproofing from the beeswax to lock in the shea butter and coconut oil.
Introducing water to a product requires the product to contain preservatives to extend the shelf life. These preservatives can irritate the skin.

Hard lotion bars may take an extra few seconds to rub into the skin, but once absorbed, you’ll find that the lotion lasts longer in your skin than traditional lotion.

No added fragrances, preservatives, chemicals, colorants… or water! That’s another “hard-core” reason why your hard lotion is the best.
